This Site and EDinBook value the trust you place in us.  We follow the highest standards for secure transactions and customer information privacy. This Privacy Policy describes our collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of your personal information.  


By accessing, visiting, using this Site and / or Service, this Site, regardless of how you access or use them, including through mobile devices, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree please do not use or access this Site or the Services.


CONSENT

By using our Site and / or Services and/or registering an account with us, you are accepting the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use, and you are consenting to our collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not provide the information we require, we may not be able to provide all of our Services to you.

Our Privacy Policy is subject to change at any time without notice and thus, we recommend that you review this Privacy Policy periodically. We may notify and announce any material changes to this Privacy Policy through this Site and/or via email, at our sole discretion.

PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

"Personally Identifiable Information" is information that can be associated with a specific person and could be used to identify that specific person whether from that data or from that data and other information that the Site and/or EDinBook has or is likely to have access to. We do not consider Personally Identifiable Information to include personal information or other data and information that has been made anonymous or aggregated so that it can no longer be used to identify a specific person, whether in combination with other information or otherwise.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

  • Information given voluntarily: We collect account and profile information such as your email address, name, phone number, school and learning preferences when you register or update your profile. We do not receive or store your full card details; payment-card data is submitted directly to Paystack as described below.
  • Automatic Collection of Information: This Site automatically collects certain information from your web browser regarding your use of the Site. Examples of information collected automatically from all users include the Internet Protocol ("IP") address used to connect your computer to the internet; computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, and platform; and full Uniform Resource Locator ("URL") click stream data, including date and time, and content you viewed or searched for on the Site.
  • Cookies, Web Beacons or Similar Technologies: This Site also collects information through the use of "cookies" or similar technologies. Cookies are anonymous, unique alphanumeric identifiers sent to your browser from a website's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. The type of information collected as a result of a cookie being stored on your computer is specific to your computer. "Session" cookies collect information about your use of the Site (e.g., whether you are logged in) and to give you a more personalized browsing experience and help you navigate the Site more efficiently from page to page. These cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser. "Persistent" cookies gather statistical information about repeat usage from your computer or workstation. In general, cookies do not contain personally identifiable information, but when you furnish your personal information through the Site, this information may be linked to the non-personally identifiable data stored in cookies sent to your browser from the Site.

We and our affiliated group companies and service providers may use cookies, "web beacons" or clear .gifs, or similar technologies. While you have the option to prevent your browser from accepting certain cookies, if you block cookies altogether, you may not be able to register, login to the Site, or make use of the full features and functionality of the Site and /or the Services.

INTERNATIONAL PRIVACY AND SECURITY STANDARDS

We use technical and administrative security measures to protect your information and to reduce the risks of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure and alteration. Our security features include firewalls and data encryption, physical access controls, and information access authorization controls, in addition to periodic review thereof. We restrict access to Personally Identifiable Information to EDinBook employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information and who are subject to strict contractual confidentiality obligations and may be disciplined or terminated if they fail to meet these obligations. If you believe your account has been abused, please contact us following the instructions in the Complaints and Grievance Redressal section below.

USE AND RETENTION

We use the personal information we collect on and/or through our Site to provide, maintain, protect, and improve the Services, offer relevant learning and book content, and protect EDinBook and its users.

We do use your Personally Identifiable Information to:

  • complete and support the activity for which the information was provided, such as allowing access to or delivery of the Services, processing or fulfilling an order, or responding to your requests or inquiries;
  • to resolve disputes; troubleshoot problems; help promote a safe service; collect money; detect and protect us against error, fraud and other criminal activity; enforce our terms and conditions; and as otherwise described to you at the time of collection.
  • measure consumer interest in our Services, tailor or customize content or design of the Site customize your experience during a single visit to the Site and repeat visits;
  • communicate with you about changes or updates to the Site and/or our Services and special offers, promotions or market research surveys;
  • combine the personal information that you provide with information that we obtain from other sources or that is already in our records, whether collected online or offline or by predecessor or affiliated group companies, for such purposes.

We do use personal information to:

  • analyse usage (including for reporting and paying royalties and license fees to authors and content distributors), perform quality control, and administer, customize and improve the Site.
  • send you offers based on your previous orders and your interests.
  • administration of the Site and/or Services, such as for the technical support of the Site and its computer system, including processing computer account information, information used in the course of securing and maintaining the Site, and verification of the Site activity by the Site, EDinBook or its agents;
  • enhance research and development, evaluate and improve the Site and /or Services;
  • pseudonymous analysis to create a profile used to determine the habits, interests or other characteristics of users for purposes of research, analysis and anonymous reporting; and
  • prevent, detect, mitigate and investigate fraudulent and illegal activities, security breaches, potentially prohibited or illegal activities; and
  • enforce our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and other Additional Agreements.

We retain your personal information as long as it is necessary and relevant for our operations and/or as required by law. In addition, we may retain personal information of closed accounts to comply with national laws, prevent fraud, collect any fees owed, resolve disputes troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigation, enforce our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and /or Additional Agreements and take other actions permitted or required by applicable laws. After it is no longer necessary for us to retain your personal information, we dispose of it in a secure manner according to our data retention and deletion policies.

OPT-OUT / CHOICE

You have the choice of sharing or not sharing the information with us, subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. You can control the methods and means of communication about your account, and your buying and selling activities anytime at the time from creating or through the duration of your active account.

We provide all users with the opportunity to opt-out of receiving non-essential (promotional, marketing-related) communications from us on behalf of our partners, and from us in general, after setting up an account. You also have the choice of deciding how we use your personal information in communicating with you, and whether you want to stay signed into your account.

If you withdraw your consent for the use or disclosure of your personal information for purposes set out in this Privacy Policy you may not have access to Site and we might not be able to provide you all of the Services and customer support offered to our users and authorized under this Privacy Policy.

ACCESS AND CHANGES

Registered users may access their identified contact information and other registration information and correct any discrepancies or update information upon log in at any time. The accuracy of such information is solely the responsibility of the user. No access is given to other data that may have been collected about users.

SHARING / DISCLOSURE

We do not share personal information with companies, organizations and individuals outside of EDinBook unless one of the following circumstances applies:

We will share personal information with companies, organizations or individuals outside of EDinBook when we have your consent to do so. We require opt-in consent for the sharing of any Personally Identifiable Information.

We may disclose your personal information to the following parties and for the following purposes:

EDinBook and it"s Affiliates who may use it to:

  • provide joint content and services (like registration, transactions, and customer support);
  • help detect and prevent potentially fraudulent and illegal acts, violations of our Terms of Use and /or Additional Agreements, and data security breaches;
  • provide the account, content and support services you request; and/or
  • guide decisions about their products, sites, applications, services, tools, and marketing communications. EDinBook and it"s Affiliates will use your personal information to send you marketing communications only if you have consented to receive such communications from them.

2]  Service providers and financial institutions partners

  • Third-party service providers and financial institution partners that help us operate the Service, process payments, prevent and investigate fraud or security breaches, provide support, and meet legal obligations.
  • Third party financial institution partners who may offer financial products to you, for them to provide joint content and services (such as, registration, transactions and customer support). These third party financial institution partners will use your personal information to send you marketing communications only if you have requested their services.

We will share your personal information with companies, organizations or individuals outside of EDinBook if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to:

  • meet any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request;
  • enforce applicable Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations;
  • detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; and
  • protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of EDinBook, our users or the public as required or permitted by law.

We may share non-personally identifiable information publicly and with our partners " like publishers, advertisers or connected sites. For example, we may share information publicly to show trends about the general use of our Services.

If EDinBook is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, we will continue to ensure the confidentiality of any personal information and give affected users notice before personal information is transferred or becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

Our Site links to other websites that may collect personally identifiable information about you. EDinBook and it"s Affiliates are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those linked websites.

MOBILE APPLICATION PERMISSIONS AND DATA COLLECTION

When you use the EDinBook mobile application, we may request access to certain device features and collect the following types of data to provide and improve our Services:

Location Data

The EDinBook app accesses your device's location information. Specifically:

  • Type of location data collected: We may collect approximate location (based on network/IP) and, where you grant permission, precise location (GPS) data from your mobile device.
  • Purpose: Location data is used to personalise your experience by surfacing relevant content, courses, institutions, tutors, and services available in your region; to comply with geographic content licensing restrictions; and to detect and prevent fraudulent activity.
  • Collection frequency: Location data is collected only while you are actively using the application, not in the background, unless you have explicitly granted background location permission.
  • Sharing: Location data is not sold. It may be shared with our affiliated group companies and trusted service providers solely to deliver the Services described above, and only to the extent necessary for those purposes.
  • Opt-out: You can withdraw location permission at any time through your device's app settings. Revoking location access will not prevent you from using the core features of the app, though some location-personalised features may be unavailable.

Other Device Permissions

Depending on the features you use, the app may also request the following permissions:

  • Camera & Microphone: Used for profile photo capture, document scanning, or video-based learning features. Access is requested only when you initiate these features.
  • Storage / Files: Used to download and store e-books, course materials, and receipts on your device for offline access.
  • Network access: Required to connect to our servers to deliver content, process payments, and sync your account.
  • Device and installation identifiers: We use security, session and push-notification identifiers to protect accounts, manage signed-in devices and deliver notifications when you consent. The mobile app does not request the Android advertising-ID permission.

All permissions are optional beyond what is necessary to deliver the core service you request. You can manage permissions at any time through your device's settings.

PAYMENT PROCESSING

Payment transactions within the EDinBook app are processed by Paystack (a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor). When you make a payment, your card details are transmitted directly to Paystack and are not stored on EDinBook's servers. Paystack's privacy policy governs the handling of your payment data. We retain only a transaction reference, amount, and status for our records.

ACCOUNT AND DATA DELETION

You have the right to request deletion of your EDinBook account and the personal data associated with it at any time. To submit a deletion request:

  • Log in to your account, navigate to Account > Security, and select Delete Account; or
  • Send a written request to privacy@edinbook.com from the email address registered to your account.

Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (for example, financial transaction records for tax or audit purposes). Data retained for legal compliance will not be used for any other purpose.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

EDinBook is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us at privacy@edinbook.com and we will take steps to delete that information promptly. Users between the ages of 13 and 18 should review this Privacy Policy with a parent or guardian before using the Service.

YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (see Account and Data Deletion above).
  • Portability: Request a machine-readable export of your personal data.
  • Objection / Restriction: Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
